Moving home is a huge step. When planning a home move, there are a lot of things to look after.

If you are moving abroad, you should start planning a few months in advance.

To help you have a happy move, here are 5 things you should do.

  1. Learn the language

If you’re moving to a new country and you aren’t familiar with the language, a few weeks before the move is a good time to start learning the language.

Start by learning some basic sentences of the local language. You, obviously, can’t master a new language in a few days. If you know the basics, surviving in the new country won’t be very difficult.

Learn phrases that help you ask for directions when you’re lost, introduce yourself to someone new and let someone know that you don’t speak their language.

  2. Read up about the country you are moving to

Before you move to a new country for the long term, it’d be best if you could visit the place once. But it isn’t always possible. That doesn’t have to mean you’ll land up in the city absolutely clueless. Read up about the country you are moving to. Watch videos by locals and travel bloggers. This way, you’ll have a fair idea of what to expect.

  3. Get your paperwork in order

Has your visa application been processed? Does your passport have all the correct information? Is there enough time before you need to renew your passport again?

If you are moving for a new job, make sure you’ve kept multiple copies of all the documents you’ll need.

If you are moving for higher studies, download the list of documents you’ll need from the university website and keep copies of it.

  4. Save money

Since you’re moving to a new country, it’s best to have savings. You probably don’t know too many people in the new country. You don’t know when you might need what.Having enough money in the bank also helps you feel safe in the new country.

  5. Pack your personal belongings

While your packers and movers will take care of all the major things, you still need to pack your personal belongings.

The sooner you start packing, the better it is. This way, you won’t forget anything. If you need to buy something, you’ll have enough time for that, too.

Before you start packing, make a checklist of things.
